Friday 3/20 Update
A marigold has just broken ground. One of the other ones that had germinated was trying to take root on the surface and grow sideways, thanks to poor planting instructions. I made a hole and placed it in there, so it should be happy now.
Two more nasturtium have broken ground as well. I planted two seeds per peat pot, but only half of them seem to be coming up. Maybe I won't need to thin them.
Snapdragons continue to sprout, and I continue to remove them. I only want two seedlings per cell, and eventually I'll thin that down to one per cell.
I read up on growing Asiatic Lilies from seed. It's a pain, and I'm doing it wrong. I've got more seeds, so I can continue trying this if I want. Apparently the seeds grow into bulbs, then the bulbs have to be vernalized (tricked into thinking it's springtime I guess) by chilling them for some time. After that they can be planted. How do these things grow on their own?
Another lavender seed has begun to sprout. The sprouts are fragile.
Outside, my hydrangea has budded and may even be starting to grow leaves. This happened very close to the ground, and I didn't notice it until now because I was paying attention to last fall's buds, which I guess got too cold and aren't growing.
