Cornell vs. Syracuse - Great lacrosse game except for one detail
Yeah, the Big Red lost to Syracuse today. I watched the game on TV and was thrilled to watch as Cornell kept the lead away from Syracuse. With about 4 minutes left in the game, the score was 9-6 Cornell.
Then the final four minutes struck.
Something happened, I don't know what, but Cornell's game play went down a notch or two, and Syracuse capitalized on this. With a minute to go, I began sensing a real loss of cohesion on Cornell's part, and I wasn't so certain of the game's outcome. With four seconds left, Syracuse scored and sent the game into sudden death overtime. Cornell remained out of the game, and Syracuse scored the winning goal.
I'd seen so many postseason miracle finishes in this season's college hockey tournaments and playoffs that this didn't shock me, but as a Cornell alum, the outcome was predictably disappointing.
Ah well... done with college sports for the year.
