Privacy concerns and registration for the LA Times

Greetings LA Times,

I received your email asking me to sign up at your new website today so that I could continue receiving emailed headlines. I was a little surprised to see that you've set up single sign-on through Twitter and Facebook, and more surprised to see that you offered explanation neither on *why* Twitter asked me to make sure I trust you, nor what you would be doing with the broad access to my Facebook data that Facebook provides. (Yes, I read your privacy policy, and it doesn't seem to address the new signons.)

Can you hear me now? Testing Twitter connection.

Well, it seems there's a way to connect my site to my Twitter account, which means that I can tweet at the same time as I post. I haven't decided whether this is good or bad, just that I'll give it a try and see what happens. Followers, please indulge me in a test!

Virtual Magnifying Glass for Windows

Know anybody who has trouble reading a computer screen because of vision problems? I found a virtual magnifying glass that looks easy to use.

Thanks for the WiFi, Google!

Dear Google,

While traveling through Boston Logan airport, I had the pleasure of using internet service that you sponsored. Free internet in the airport--what a concept! Thanks, I appreciate you thinking of the holiday travelers!

Pakistani Website Spammers

Well, it seems that this website has been visited by Pakistani spammers. These are the people who leave irrelevant comments with links to their own sites, in the hopes of tricking people into visiting them.

Well you Pakistani spammers, I'm on to you. Unfortunately for you, I've got comment moderation turned on, so you won't see anything you try posting until I approve it...and I'm not that generous.

firefox and Facebook issue?

Anyone else having problems with Facebook after upgrading to Fire fox 3.0.9? It seems to hang at login.

Curry College and POP servers for student email

Is this still accurate? Post comments below.

A few months ago, I set up a BlackBerry for a Curry College student so he could use it to get his email. This worked fine up until a few weeks ago, when BlackBerry informed the student that his account information needed to be revalidated. Revalidation failed, so I took a look at it.

Was My Cell Phone Hacked?

Today I witnessed a troubling event on my cell phone. I saw the front display light up out of the corner of my eye, so I picked it up to see what was going on. The phone told me it had just received 49 Megabytes of data. I don't subscribe to any services that transfer data, and I wasn't even using the phone at the time, and this creeped me out a bit.

Amusing Photo: Domain not resolving

Sorry, but here's some geek humor for the day.

Care to take a guess why the domain in this photo isn't resolving?
